A new discovery could significantly alter the landscape of Parkinson’s disease treatment—using a drug that’s already FDA-approved.
Scientists have identified how two brain cell surface proteins, Aplp1 and Lag3, work together to facilitate the spread of toxic alpha-synuclein proteins, which are central to Parkinson’s disease progression. 
Even more striking, the cancer d**g nivolumab/relatlimab, which targets Lag3, was found to block this interaction in mice, effectively preventing the spread of disease-causing protein clumps.
