Doctors are stopping Parkinson’s tremors in real time using focused ultrasound, no incisions and no implants required. Hundreds of ultrasound beams are fired simultaneously, converging on a pinpoint target deep in the brain. Each beam is too weak to cause damage on its own, but where they meet, the combined energy heats and disrupts the misfiring circuit driving the tremor. Patients are awake during the procedure, holding cups and drawing spirals as the shaking stops on camera.
