FDA Expands Use of Focused Ultrasound for Parkinson’s
The FDA has approved bilateral focused ultrasound treatment for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Patients with advanced PD now have the option to receive focused ultrasound on both sides of their brain in two sessions at least six months apart. This ruling is an important milestone for patients, as PD is a systemic disease with symptoms including rigidity and dyskinesia that can impact the whole body.
The technology was initially cleared by the FDA to treat PD on one side in 2021.
