In 2026, Japan became the first country in the world to approve a stem cell therapy for Parkinson’s disease.
The therapy is called AMCHEPRY.
It is based on so-called iPS cells (induced pluripotent stem cells).
These are transformed in the laboratory into dopamine-producing nerve cells and transplanted into the brain.The goal:
To replace the dead nerve cells in Parkinson’s disease—not just to alleviate symptoms, but to repair them directly.
